After high flows along the Middle Loup River south of St. Paul caused notable damage for the second time in just over six years, pleas for assistance by local leaders to address to evolving situation have possibly finally gotten the attention of statewide officials.

Harriet Steenson hosted the Monday Nite Bridge Club last week, with Rose Ann Bouchard winning high, Marilyn Paulman receiving second high, and Lola Teter winning the traveling prize. Rogene Vopat will host the August games.

The river flows as of Sunday morning: The South Loup River is down to 247 cubic-feet-per-second (cfs). The Middle Loup River is down to 1,850 cfs. The North Loup River is running about the same as the Middle Loup River, at 1,870 cfs. The river flows have been great for grownups and kids to canoe and kayak. We have had several launches from our place. The flower seeds we planted last spring are starting to bloom. I’m sure the bees like gathering pollen and nectar from them. A single bee can visit as many as 1, 500 flowers in a day and as many as 63,000 in their lifetime. I’ve checked my hive. To me it looks like there are too many bees in it. I’m going to ask about that when I go to my beekeeping class this week.
