Linda Rasmussen of St. Paul was one of thirty- five recipients of the 2015 Ak-Sar-Ben Good Neighbor Award. Cindy Brummund nominated Rasmussen for the award. She had countless examples of her neighbor coming to her family’s aid in many ways over the years—everything from mowing and watering the yard during hospitalizations, to driving over two hours to pick up their boat with very little notice. “She is always willing to help,” Brummund wrote, calling Rasmussen the ideal “good beighbor.” Rasmussen, who also volunteers at the senior center, was presented the award by Howard County Fair Manager Kevin Jorgensen prior to the Saturday night grandstand entertainment.

Area first responders benefit from St. Francis foundation

Late last week, CHI Health St. Francis Foundation awarded more than $127,632 to sixteen local fire and rescue departments and funded trauma skills training at the hospital. The majority of the grant funding was made possible by the foundation’s annual premier fundraiser: Ticket to Win.

The Friends of Paplin would not be successful in their efforts to repair, restore, and preserve the historic Paplin property if it were not for all those who cleaned, set up, brought food, donated silent auction items, played music, sang, helped with the food and cleanup, and those in attendance. Saturday’s parade may have been the centerpiece of this year’s Grover Cleveland Alexander Days celebration in St. Paul, but well before the event stepped off on Howard Avenue, a different type of parade took place in Howard County.
GCA DAYS A SUCCESS

Grover Cleveland Alexander (GCA) Days was once again a success this year, thanks in no small part to its myriad sponsors and community volunteers. “I think it was a great event,” said St.
