In one week’s time, on January 3rd, state senators from each of Nebraska’s forty-nine legislative districts will convene in the capitol for the second session of the state’s 108th Legislature. Over the course of sixty days between January 3rd and mid-April, the representatives will work to try to see their legislative priorities become law.

ST. PAUL HIGH SCHOOL traveled to Columbus Lakeview on Saturday, December 9th for the team’s first robotics competition of the season. There were twenty-eight different robots from eight different schools throughout the area at the event. All teams competed in individual skills completion and qualifying rounds for seeding into the final’s tournament. Students were also judged on their robot and design during an interview with judges. St. Paul did well during their opening competition having one team, consisting of Roman Lentz, Mason Childers, and Jackson Kramer, on the first team alliance and awarded the tournament champion trophy. Kaleb Kaslon and Kolton Williams also won the innovate award for their interview and the design of their robot. St. Paul won’t be back in action until their home tournament on Saturday, January 20th.

The St. Paul Board of Education and the St. Paul Education Association reached a tentative agreement for the 2015-2015 school year. The agreement was reached at the December 9th meeting of the board, but will not become official until approved at their January meeting. Base pay for teachers will increase by $800, going from $31,500 a year to $32,300. Base pay is what a first-year teacher with no post-graduate hours receives…The total salary and benefit package will increase 3.99%. The health insurance premium for next year will increase by 2.75%.
