Howard County releases 2024 election filings

Body Howard County Clerk Brenda Klanecky recently released the election filings for Howard County. The deadline for incumbent candidates wishing to appear on Nebraska’s primary election ballot is February 15th at 5:00.

Body When St. Paul Utility Department personnel came to work on Monday, it was discovered that a ten-inch water main under the water tower was leaking. They had to cut the water to the tower, drain it, then dig down to the main to find where the problem was.

Body We took a walk to the river on Sunday morning, and the sandbars are plentiful. The rivers are flowing below normal for this time of year. The South Loup River’s normal flow is 259 cfs, and the river is flowing at 210 cfs.

Body Lola Teter hosted the Monday Nite Bridge Club at the Marilyn Paulman home last week. Lola received the high prize, Rogene Vopat received second high, and Joyce Berney won the traveling prize. Joyce will host the March games of the group.

County sheriff plans to resign position

Body Howard County Sheriff Tom Busch will be departing the Howard County Sheriff’s Office later this year. In an interview on Friday, the county’s top law enforcement official said that he was in a process of transition that would see him departing the office, likely this spring.
