Sunday morning, as the north wind blew and snow was coming down, the rivers were still flowing. The South Loup River was basically flowing the same as last week. The Middle Loup River dropped quite a bit after having reached 2,250 cubic-feet-per-second (cfs) last week. This week, the Middle Loup River is now only flowing at 1,380 cfs. The North Loup River is about steady, with 909 cfs of flow. It has been a week of wildlife. Besides the geese and eagles we see daily, we had forty-plus turkeys walk along our riverfront. They started on the west side of the highway, determined to come east. Shawn kept the dogs in the building, so they didn’t disturb them. After they passed and walked over to the neighbor’s, a lone rooster pheasant came from the east and went west along the river. I sure hope they are making a comeback. Max and Delta found a muskrat tunnel in the pond they have access to. Max dug fearlessly, trying to get to the critter. No luck, but it keeps him busy.
