Dannebrog will be holding their twenty-nineth annual Grundlovsfest on Saturday and Sunday, June 4th and 5th. The event honors the community’s Danish heritage. This year the traveling exhibit “Happy Danes on the Plains,” will be on display during the celebration.

Jalee Rose Haggerty of St. Paul High School and Shia Sue Rasmussen of Elba Public School have been selected to attend American Legion Auxiliary Cornhusker Girls State from May 31st until June 6th on the campus of the University of Nebraska— Lincoln.

Homes north of St. Libory impacted by tornado; governor surveys damage In the afternoon on Sunday, May 17th, a high-end EF3 tornado with wind speeds measuring up to 160 miles per hour touched down in southern Howard County, destroying transmission lines, agricultural infrastructure, outbuildings, and multiple rural homes as it moved northeasterly through the area.

Just over 2,000 of Howard County’s 4,663 registered voters turned out for the statewide primary election last Tuesday, May 12th—a turnout of more than forty-three percent. Driven up by a couple key races on the Republican ticket, that showing was significantly higher than the statewide rate of 28.35 percent.

“Teaching has always felt like it was my calling,” said Kellie Seward, reflecting on her long career at St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS) last week. “I always felt like I was called to it, and this was the best way to be a servant.”

St. Paul Public Schools’ (SPPS) annual FFA Plant Sale took place in early- and mid-May, giving stoppers-by a chance to shop locally for locally grown flowers and other plants in the runup to Mother’s Day and last week.
