Friends and family of Elba’s six graduates gathered in the school gymnasium at five o’clock on Saturday, May 7th, to witness the school’s commencement exercises…class valedictorian, Kayla Safarik, and class salutatorian, Kelsey Safarik, who each addressed the crowd are the twin daughters of Rick and Elaine Safarik of Elba.

What a wonderful Mother’s Day. Not too much wind and the temperatures were mild. We had family over for fishing in the pond. As of Sunday evening, the South Loup River flow reader is up and running again. It shows the river flowing at 175 cubic-feet-per-second (cfs). The Middle Loup River isn’t much different than last week reading 1,090 cfs.

Elba Public Schools (EPS) was the site of much pomp on May 9th. During commencement exercises held in the gymnasium on Saturday afternoon, twelve Bluejays turned tassels on their mortarboards and stepped into the rest of their lives.
TWO EARN SCHOLARSHIPS FROM STATE ASSOCIATION

The Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association District 5 has awarded two $500.00 scholarships to area veterinary college students. Recipients of these awards include future veterinarians Aidan Anderson of St. Paul, and Tate Trumler of Rockville.

THE ST. PAUL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH welcomed seven new confirmation members with presiding Pastor Nicole Schwartz-Eck on Sunday, April 5th. Two members were also baptized: Camilla Benzel and Kadynce Paxton.
Area students earn degrees from UNL

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln conferred a record 3,885 degrees during commencement exercises May 8th and May 9th. The 3,762 graduates— also a record—are from sixty-one countries; forty-five states and the District of Columbia; and 230-plus Nebraska communities.
