As of Sunday morning, the South Loup River was flowing 265 cfs, down quite a bit from last week, and the Middle Loup River by St. Paul was at 1,400 cfs, compared to 1,890 cfs last Sunday. Shawn saw a baby fawn this week, it was having a very hard time keeping up with its mom. I’ve also seen a lot of mulberries ready to be picked. Max, our black lab (one year old), has been bringing us interesting things this week. He brought back a blue gill, a mole, and part of a sprinkler head. He really didn’t want to give up the fish.

was a longtime supporter, donor, advocate, and caretaker of the Howard County Historical Village, including the Gruber House. She served as past president of the Howard County Historical Society and served on the board of directors for many years. To honor her memory, a scarlet oak tree was purchased with the donations received. Pictured are Matt Helzer, Kari Pierson, and Roger Goettsche after they planted the fifteen–foot– tall tree.

Decade after rebuild, winery continues to grow

Eleven years since a fire took their original winery on June 23, 2012 and just over ten years since rebuilding concluded, business at Miletta Vista winery is going strong, say owners Mick and Loretta McDowell. An assemblage of new, returning, and staple wines are hoped to allow the winery to retain and gain customers, while recent legislation allowing self-distributing farm wineries to sell alcoholic beverages not produced on site on their premises is projected to increase revenues “ten percent.”
