Following twelve years serving as secondary principal at her alma mater, St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS), Jen Hagen will depart the district following the expiration of her contract at the end of June.

As of Friday morning, the river flows are down again. The South Loup River is at 208 cfs and the Middle Loup River near St. Paul is at 1,000 cfs. I saw four families of geese one morning walking from our smaller pond to the larger one. I think I counted fifteen babies, of all different sizes. I didn’t know we had that many.

Memorial Day Observed

MEMORIAL DAY was observed in St. Paul on Monday, with Carl Mogensen American Legion Post 119 holding services at Elmwood Cemetery. On a sunny morning, a sizable crowd attended the annual observance, which was headlined by the Memorial Day address provided by Father Alex Borzych, LCDR U.S. Navy Ret., American Legion State Chaplain. The unexpected passing of longtime Howard County Treasurer Jackie Synowski sent reverberations throughout the county on May 20th, coming as a shock to her countless friends and colleagues and leaving the county treasurer’s office without its head officer, a dedicated public official who had served in the treasurer’s office for over thirty-three years.
County Places Time Capsule in New Steps at Courthouse

Early last Thursday morning, several county officials and employees congregated before the Howard County Courthouse as workers with Mid-Continental Construction Co. readied to complete work on the cheek walls of the building’s new front steps.

CONFIRMATION WAS CELEBRATED at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul on Saturday, May 20, 2023. Twenty students received this special sacrament during the five o’clock evening Mass.
