Sample joins municipal police department

During a ceremony held at the St. Paul City Hall on the afternoon of Thursday, July 6th, Mathew Sample, the latest addition to the St. Paul Police Department (SPPD), was officially sworn in and awarded his badge as a non-certified conditional officer (NCO) of the local department. The ceremony recognized that Sample, who had joined the SPPD in June, had attained the eighty hours of training required of an NCO.
SPPS board okays switch to semester grading

Students at St. Paul High School will now only be graded on a semester basis, with the previous system by which students earned a quarter grade officially having gone by the wayside.
Small plane crashes near Boelus

Around 9:15 last Tuesday evening, per local reports, a personal plane came down in rural Howard County. According to Boelus Fire Chief Wayne Reimers during an interview on Wednesday afternoon, the airplane had appeared to be “lower- winged”—with wings near the bottom of the fuselage— and able to convey about four persons.
Car show adapts, draws large crowds

Despite a shake-up to the Royal Coachmen Car Club’s annual car show, the local organization’s events—including the car show, the poker run, and the drag races—had, said Royal Coachmen Car Club Member Brian Sack on Monday, been a notable success over the GCA Days weekend.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center has announced its spring 2023 dean’s list for students enrolled in nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, and the allied health professions. To qualify for the dean’s list, nursing and the allied health students must be enrolled for twelve or more hours during the semester and have a grade point average of 3.75 or above.
Chadron State College

Chadron State College has announced the names of students who qualified for the institution’s spring 2023 academic honors lists. The President’s List contains students with a 4.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale. To qualify, students must have completed forty-five credit hours, be enrolled in twelve credit hours of coursework, be seeking their first bachelor’s degree, and have no incomplete grades during the semester. Students who qualified to the President’s List include Alexis Kramer and Grant Turek, both of St. Paul.

IN HONOR OF THEIR WORK to support the Village of Elba and Elba Public Schools, Gary and Charlotte Rasmussen were awarded the Elba Community Award by the Elba Community Foundation during the Elba Fireworks Show’s hamburger feed on July 4th. Julia Kleinsasser won people’s choice for the fireworks donation bucket decoration contest.
