Taken from the files of The Wolbach Messenger Ten Years Ago, 2016 The Central Valley Cougars are sending four wrestlers to the state tournament. In the D-1 district tournament last week at Freeman High School, Trigger Pokorny (120) placed second, Josh Ibach (106) placed third, and Clay Stepp (126) and Michael Schumacher (220) each placed fourth.

River finally thawed. As of Monday morning, the reading is 265 cubic-feet-per-second (cfs). The Middle Loup River is fluctuating, with a reading of 1,710 cfs. The North Loup River has dropped quite a bit since it thawed and is now running 1,240 cfs. The geese have really arrived this past week.

Farwell’s sports history will be honored in a special exhibit at the Nebraska Sports Hall of Fame in Lincoln during the month of March as part of March Madness. Sixty years ago in March of 1956, undefeated Farwell valiantly but unsuccessfully, dueled it out 50-38 with undefeated Holstein, for the Class E Nebraska Boys State Basketball Championship. The school year of 1955-56 for Farwell produced a varsity team of 13-1, a reserve team of 12-2, and a girls volleyball team of 11-0.

The family of Vange Markvicka Obermiller would like to thank everyone for their kind words of support at our time of loss. A big thank you to those who dropped food by and for the beautiful flower arrangements for her funeral. We would like to thank the altar society and American Legion Auxiliary Society ladies for their programs. Mom was honored to be a member of both. Lastly, a huge thank you to all the church ladies for the desserts and salads and for serving a wonderful meal.
