Centura survives last-second comeback by Summerland, wins OT thriller The more things change, the more they stay the same. That adage could be the Centura girls’ basketball team’s motto this season, as, despite losing the bulk of its starting lineup from last year’s state championship team, the Centurions will be back in Lincoln next week to defend their title.

The St. Paul Wildcats had a chance to end their regular-season on the right note Friday night, but the Blue and Gold struggled to stitch together four complete quarters and finished the evening with their fourteenth loss of the season.

After getting a taste of success in the LouPlatte Conference tournament and then winning two of their last three games in the regular season, the St. Paul girls’ basketball team was hoping to make some magic happen in the postseason.

The St. Paul Wildcats had big goals entering the 2024 NSAA State Wrestling Championships, and on the mats at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, they went the distance to achieve them.

Heading into the NSAA State Wrestling Championships, the Centurions had all their hopes for a successful state meet riding on one guy. Last week, Kolten Simons represented the Burgundy and Grey at the annual meet, which was held inside the arena at Omaha’s CHI Health Center.

The dream of winning back-to-back state titles is still alive at Centura High School. Last week, in the D1-5 subdistrict tournament, the Centurions punched their ticket to a district final with wins over Fullerton and Nebraska Christian on their home court.

FIVE CENTRAL VALLEY WRESTLERS competed at last week’s NSAA State Wrestling Championships, with three members of the team—Dallas Wadsworth, Jairo Lazos, and Grady Kelly—earning hardware. Wadsworth placed fourth, while Lazos and Kelly each finished in fifth place. As a team, the Cougars scored forty-six points to tie for tenth place.
