Persistence

Body
The ability to stick to a task or project until completion is a valuable trait in a world where many tasks are difficult and don’t go smoothly the first time around. Thomas Edison is said to have tried literally thousands of materials for the filament of the electric light bulb before hitting on carbonized cotton thread as the proper material. How much longer would humans have toiled in darkness had it not been for his dogged persistence?

As of Sunday evening, the website for river readings stated they are updated with limited support, due to a lapse in government funding. Taking that into consideration, the South Loup River has dropped a little, to 144 cubic-feet-per-second (cfs). The Middle Loup River at St. Paul has stayed almost the same, at 1,260 cfs. The North Loup River is only down twenty cfs from last week. That river has a reading of 1,130 cfs. The poison oak that vines up trees as it grows has its leaves starting to turn red. That, along with cottonwood trees starting to turn yellow, is giving the river the look of fall. Sue Rasmussen and I took advantage of the cool fall morning on Monday to take a kayaking trip down the Middle Loup and enjoy the beauty. We had a great trip. Come Tuesday, I sure could feel it in my arms and shoulders. I hadn’t done that in a while.
