As of Sunday afternoon, the rivers are lower than last week. Not a surprise due to less rain this past week. The South Loup River is at 175 cubic-feet-per-second (cfs), where last week’s reading was 194 cfs. The Middle Loup is reading 733 cfs today, which is the largest drop of the three rivers, as last Sunday it was at 804 cfs. The North Loup River, as of Sunday afternoon, is 984 cfs, compared to 1,040 cfs last week. We went out fishing Sunday morning. What a beautiful morning: cool, cloudy, and enough breeze to keep the bugs away. We kept a couple of fish; most were thrown back, as they were too small.

Days Gone By

All kinds of memorabilia from Farwell’s former athletic teams were on display in the Farwell gym on Saturday for people to browse through and remember. One of the event organizers, Randy Lukasiewicz, said 120 people attended the events, which included a program at the gym in the afternoon and a dance in the evening at the Pawlowski Community Center. Irma Nesiba Petersen of Kearney gave Farwell a letter sweater that belonged to her late husband. She is the daughter-in-law of Chick Petersen, who was the inspiration for the events on Saturday. Seventy years ago, a large crowd attended Chick Petersen Day in Farwell when the residents honored the former baseball player and community leader. On Saturday, Chick Petersen’s forty-page scrapbook was on display in the gym. An old letter jacket and baseball uniform belonging to the late Daryl Krzycki were among the many other items on display.
