Caden Moderow of Ravenna was a guest of Dave and Barbara Tuma and Markus from Wednesday afternoon until Friday afternoon. They enjoyed dinner in Grand Island on Thursday.
The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 119 met on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. at the new St. Paul Legion Club with six officers and three members present. President Char Schmid called the meeting to order. Bev Williams read an opening prayer. Schmid led the Pledge of Allegiance and the Preamble to the Constitution. Secretary Kelsey Scheer took a role call and read the minutes from the June meeting. The minutes were corrected. Treasurer Diane Bennett gave the treasurer’s report.
Kappa Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International met at 11:30 a.m. on June 16, 2022 at the Venture Center in Central City. Originally, the meeting place was to be held at Veterans Memorial, South Park, but due to extreme heat, the move was needed. Festivities began with members reciting the Collect, then enjoying an old-fashioned box lunch exchange and good catch-up conversation.

The news Sunday morning at church was the storm that went through Saturday night. Members that live by Nysted, towards Cairo, all had stories of the hail, rain, and wind. At our house, it sounded like bowling balls falling on our roof. The hail only measured two inches across. We were glad it didn’t last that long and there were not that many hailstones. What surprised me was the divots in our gravel where the hail landed. We are very thankful for the rain, as the river’s flows had declined all week. They are back up now. The water flow in the rivers had a steady decline this past week until the rain on Saturday night. The South Loup River on Sunday afternoon measured at 165 cubic feet per second. The Middle Loup River’s discharge was at 781 cfs.
Those wishing to celebrate America’s birthday earlier this month had an ample amount of time to do so, with the Fourth of July holiday creating a three-day weekend. Yet, even with so much time for people to gather, celebrate, and light off fireworks, city officials and first responders noted that the extended holiday weekend ended up being relatively quiet.
