The deluge of fall rains that hit lower precincts of Greeley County began Wednesday afternoon in the northern part of the Spring Creek tributaries, with gauges showing totals ranging from five to more than twelve inches. Flooding on the Spring Creek watershed hit this community early that evening. The two main bodies of Spring Creek from the north and northwest join near Wolbach and Mary’s Creek watershed from the northeast join within the village limits. The late-night hours had the creek out of its banks and flooding the acres of Cottonwood Park, causing heavy damage in debris and sending park equipment, including picnic tables and railroad ties, outside the area…The water depth was estimated to be near six to eight feet in the park in most areas…Cottonwood Park ponds receded to near-normal levels by late Friday afternoon, when the drainage structure allowed the water to be sent into Spring Creek in an underground culvert system.
