The first day of summer came in wet. It is too bad it came for some with high winds and hail also. Here on the Loup, we missed the brunt of the storms that rolled through. As of Sunday afternoon, the South Loup River is on its way down from the rain last night. It peaked at 852 cubic-feet-per-second (cfs) and is now flowing at 625 cfs. The Middle Loup River is also on its way down, peaking at 6,090 cfs, now 4,380 cfs. The North Loup River is down from its high reading by 100 cfs, now running 1,920 cfs. The game cameras are showing more pictures of fawns. The grandsons and I were talking about the age of whitetail deer. I did some research and what I found was that in the wild, they live three to six years for bucks and does live longer. It said in rare cases they will live to twenty years old. My research also revealed that approximately 5,000 deer-vehicle collisions happen each year in Nebraska.
