Homes north of St. Libory impacted by tornado; governor surveys damage In the afternoon on Sunday, May 17th, a high-end EF3 tornado with wind speeds measuring up to 160 miles per hour touched down in southern Howard County, destroying transmission lines, agricultural infrastructure, outbuildings, and multiple rural homes as it moved northeasterly through the area.

Just over 2,000 of Howard County’s 4,663 registered voters turned out for the statewide primary election last Tuesday, May 12th—a turnout of more than forty-three percent. Driven up by a couple key races on the Republican ticket, that showing was significantly higher than the statewide rate of 28.35 percent.

“Teaching has always felt like it was my calling,” said Kellie Seward, reflecting on her long career at St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS) last week. “I always felt like I was called to it, and this was the best way to be a servant.”

St. Paul Public Schools’ (SPPS) annual FFA Plant Sale took place in early- and mid-May, giving stoppers-by a chance to shop locally for locally grown flowers and other plants in the runup to Mother’s Day and last week.

Bonnie Cates, lead consultant for Educational Resources, Inc. of Memphis, New York, was in St. Paul on May 11th to present the St. Paul Elementary staff and students with the company’s “Golden Apple Award:” to commend them for their success in the company’s reading program, Reading Master. In presenting the award, Cates commended everyone involved at St. Paul for their “work in progress, as well as a job well done.”
