It didn’t take long for the St. Paul Wildcats to discover that they were in the middle of a historic state meet last week. However, even as records fell and history was made all around Omaha Burke Stadium at the NSAA Class B State Track and Field Championships, the Wildcats continued to hold their own.

During her prep career, Centura’s Sydney Davis has become a fixture in the high jump at the NSAA State Track and Field Championships. And the Centurion has also become a mainstay on the medals stand, placing fifth during her sophomore season and second in her junior year.

The St. Paul Wildcats found themselves right in the middle of some of the most historic moments of the first day of the NSAA State Track and Field Championships on Wednesday.

All six of the Wildcats’ state qualifiers made an appearance at Burke Stadium during the four-day meet’s first session, with Jonah Paulsen pacing the field with a third-place finish in the boys’ triple jump.

Wednesday morning, off the runway at Omaha’s Burke Stadium, Paulsen made the sand fly at the NSAA Class B State Track and Field Championships when he made his mark at 44-10.75 to place third in the boys’ triple jump.

The Elba Bluejays will not be without representation at Burke Stadium this week, as the Howard County school district qualified one member of its team for the state meet at last week’s District D-5 competition.

Ten teams traveled to Holdrege to take part in the B-5 District Track and Field Meet with the hopes of qualifying athletes for the state meet in Omaha last Tuesday. In Class B, the top three finishers in individual events and the top two relay teams qualify for state, with a few additional qualifiers added after all six districts are completed.

The Central City/Fullerton/ Centura baseball team became one step closer to their dream of a state championship last Saturday when they knocked off sixth-seeded Wayne (14-7) in the opening round of the 2023 NSAA State Baseball Championships in Omaha.

SSix strokes were all that separated the St. Paul Wildcats from securing the team title at last week’s LouPlatte Conference golf meet.

If their marks and finishes at their final meet of the regular season are any indication of how the Centura track and field teams will perform when they make the trek to Utica for the district meet this week, the Burgundy and Gray should be preparing to send a large delegation to the state meet in Omaha later this month.
