PWG WINS FIRST TWO AT STATE Through two games, the Palmer-Wolbach-Greeley (PWG) Seniors have looked like the team to beat in the Class C Nebraska American Legion State Tournament in Wakefield. Unbeaten so far on the state’s biggest stage, PWG has outscored their opponents 20-4, with a 10-3 first round victory over Pender and a 10-1 win over Albion to secure their spot in the tournament’s quarterfinal round.
An upset win over top-seeded Ord vaulted St. Paul into the semifinal round of last week’s Area C-6 Tournament, where the Post 119 Seniors suffered their second consecutive loss to second-seeded Albion, falling 5-4 and ending their season just shy of a state tournament berth.
Albion uses three first-inning runs as springboard for 7-1 victory The Dannebrog-Cairo-Boelus (DCB) Seniors fell one game shy of their seventh consecutive state tournament appearance last Tuesday, suffering a 7-1 loss to second-seeded Albion in the Area C-6 championship game. DCB found themselves battling from behind right away when two hits, three walks, and a balk resulted in three first-inning runs for Albion.
On their home field last Friday evening, the fourth-seeded St. Paul Seniors took on third-seeded Dannebrog-Cairo- Boelus (DCB) in the opening round of the Area C-6 Tournament. The evenly matched squads traded blows back and forth until some late heroics gave the home team a slim 6-4 victory.
Last Saturday in St. Paul, the Post 119 Seniors suffered their first loss of the Area C-6 Baseball Tournament when second-seeded Albion Cornerstone Bank used a third-inning rally to top the locals 8-5 at Grover Cleveland Alexander Field.
The Malcolm Juniors have built a dynasty at the Class C American Legion State Baseball Tournament in recent years, winning back-to-back state titles, sweeping through the bracket in each tournament, and compiling a 50-3-2 record during that time.
Despite outhitting Pender in the opening round of the Class C American Legion State Baseball Tournament in Hartington, the St. Paul Juniors were sent to the loser’s bracket last Saturday with an 8-7 loss to the Thurston County club.
