A communications outage believed to have been caused by cut fiber optic lines affected counties across the Cornhusker State on the evening of Thursday, August 31st and into early Friday. “Regional 911 system failures have occurred this evening across the state,” said Governor Jim Pillen in a statement issued to social media just after 10:00 p.m.

The discharge of a sheriff’s deputy’s sidearm caused damage to a glass door and its frame inside St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS) on Wednesday, August 23rd, according to Howard County Sheriff Tom Busch last week.

The Greenwing Field Day was held on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the former Tri County Sand and Gravel site and the Shelly Wolinski and Kerry Kolar home near the river. With the sixty-seven registered kids, the helpers, the parents, and the grandparents there were approximately one hundred-forty in attendance. There were four age groups and four stations, including fishing, water safety/kayaking, archery, firearm safety, and BB gun target practice. They all enjoyed lunch and a drawing for prizes.

Miles and Riley Keep of Scotia were Saturday guests of their grandparents, Greg and Vicki Keep. On Wednesday morning, Dave and Barbara Tuma went to Kearney, where Barbara had a medical appointment.

The St. Paul Country Quilters met on Monday, August 21st at the Sts. Peter and Paul Parish Life Center in St. Paul. President Pat Kuchta called the meeting to order with a roll call question. How much sewing/quilting did you get done in the “Hot, Hot” days.
