County roads funding, new yards discussed by board

Commissioners look to tackle construction of county yards via design-bid-build delivery method The Howard County Board of Commissioners tackled numerous items of business during their final regular meeting of the month of August last Tuesday. During the board’s discussion concerning county roads, the commissioners were tasked with certifying the county’s use of funds for the Federal Funds Purchase Program (FFPP)— through which the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) allocates funding for road and bridge projects to Nebraska counties— in the 2022 fiscal year, which ended June 1st.

Historic sign restored, returned to St. Paul

A work of stained glass that had composed a facade window at Bartle’s Store on main street 100 years ago has been restored and put on display in the exhibit building at the Howard County Historical Village thanks to the efforts of Fremont-based stained glass artist Ken Eldrigdge and members of the Howard County Historical Society. The project is the culmination of a months-long effort by Eldridge, who both restores glass windows and designs and creates such windows for churches throughout Nebraska and beyond.
