MASON RINKOL, the son of Randy and Nancy Rinkol of Silver Creek, gave a report on his experience at Cornhusker Boys State to the Wolbach American Legion at their meeting last Tuesday. Rinkol, who is a senior at Twin River High School, represented Ray Mapes Legion Post 236 at the annual event in Lincoln. Mason’s father, Randy, presented the post with a wooden flag that he made in appreciation of the post sponsoring Mason. Pictured accepting the flag last week is post commander Luke Thompson.

Osborne receives warm welcome

Cars packed Howard Avenue last Thursday as locals and out-of-towners crowded into the St. Paul Civic Center for the chance to hear Tom Osborne, legendary former Cornhusker football coach and congressman for Nebraska’s 3rd District, recount some of his time in the local area. Osborne, who is from Hastings, had frequently visited his maternal grandparents— William H. and Mary (Mortensen) Welsh—in St. Paul; after his father joined the United States Army following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Osborne, his mother, and his brother had resided in St. Paul for several of his formative years.

Cyboron among newly elected ALA officers

The Nebraska American Legion Auxiliary (ALA) recently announced the 20232024 Nebraska ALA Department Officers elected during the 102nd Annual Department Convention on June 25th in Kearney. The 2023-2024 Nebraska ALA Department Officers are Department President Lisa Moore of Wilber, Department Vice President Amanda Washburn of Lincoln, Department Historian Ruth Heitbrink of Sterling, Department Chaplain Vicki Cyboron of Boelus, and National Executive Committee Vicki Ozenbaugh of Ohiowa.
