When St. Paul Utility Department personnel came to work on Monday, it was discovered that a ten-inch water main under the water tower was leaking. They had to cut the water to the tower, drain it, then dig down to the main to find where the problem was. The hardest part was digging through 2.5 feet of frozen ground, and the process required the use of heavy equipment…Water Superintendent Matt Helzer…said that St. Paul was fortunate that the City of Grand Island had a stainless steel sleeve/repair clamp the right size that St. Paul could use. He noted that the water main crack was in the worst place possible, but that the crew was able to find and repair it, working in temperatures that were in the low teens.

THE ST. PAUL RESCUE SQUAD recently received some gifts from area sweethearts. The St. Paul quilting Group presented a dozen quilts to the EMTs to keep in the ambulance and distribute to those who need a warm comforting blanket. Bic Klute of Grand Prairie, Texas sent infant, children, and adult-sized crocheted winter caps to put in the ambulance for the EMTs to distribute. Following almost two years of construction, last week, St. Paul city leaders officially declared that construction on the city’s new wastewater treatment facility was complete.

HOWARD COUNTY COURT Courtroom updates completed at county courthouse On Tuesday, February 6th, about three weeks behind schedule, a roughly $40,000 renovation was completed in the Howard County Courthouse’s courtroom. “On Tuesday, they were in here putting on the finishing touches and assembling the council tables,” noted Clerk of District Court Lisa Johnson in an interview last Thursday.

Nacho’s Tacos looks to duplicate success with second truck About nine months after becoming a fulltime operation and just under three years since going into business, a well-known local staple is expanding. Nacho’s Tacos, a food truck owned and operated by husband and wife couple Ignacio “Nacho” and Marisela Guzman, is adding a second truck to its fleet.
