A family of five was left homeless following a residential fire in St. Paul on Sunday, January 12th. The Jacob Weddle/Stephanie Lambracht family lives in the mobile home at 1121 Fourth Street in St. Paul. St. Paul Fire Chief Mike Becker said the three-bedroom home and all of its contents were destroyed in the blaze….When the St. Paul fire department arrived on scene, the home was fully engulfed in flames… Several explosions could be heard. Becker said they had been caused by propane tanks in the camper and the grill…Becker said that the fire marshal had been unable to determine the cause of the fire. He said the last truck left the scene at 12:30 a.m.

As of Sunday, the river was still frozen over. No open flow. We will see what this week brings, if the warmer weather opens it up without ice jams. The geese are still around. I see a rabbits occasionally running through the snow. On the cold, windy days, the deer were not moving much. At least, there were not many pictures on the game cameras.

Sorgenfrei sworn in as deputy treasurer

Last Wednesday, January 17th, in the Commissioners’ Room of the Howard County Courthouse, Mykenna Sorgenfrei was officially sworn in as Howard County’s new deputy treasurer. In front of an audience of fellow county employees, family members, and friends, Sorgenfrei swore to support the constitutions of the United States of America and the State of Nebraska “against all enemies foreign and domestic” and to “faithfully and impartially” fulfill the duties of her office.

Taken from the files of The Wolbach Messenger Ten Years Ago, 2014 Although a large building and all of its contents were destroyed in a Friday night fire in Wolbach, it could have been much worse. “We were fortunate that the fire did not occur on Thursday or Saturday, when the wind was howling,” said Wolbach Fire Chief Dean Robinson.
