The St. Paul Wildcats are getting used to bringing home gold hardware, with the Blue and Gold winning the team title during two of their last three outings.

ACKLES WINS GOLD AT TROJANS’ INVITE Twenty-eight teams from across the Cornhusker State and beyond made the trek to Furnas County last week for the Cambridge girls’ wrestling invite. Adams Central secured 126.5 points to win the team title at Cambridge on Saturday.

Following a three-game skid, the St. Paul Wildcats needed to get their season back on track.

Sandwiched between losses to state-rated Adams Central and Broken Bow, the St. Paul Wildcats brought home their second win of the season.

The Centura girls’ basketball team set the tone in last Tuesday’s game against Central Valley immediately following the tip. After jumping out to an early 18-8 lead after the first quarter of play, the Centurions screamed past their guests from Greeley County.

The Centura boys’ wrestling team made the jaunt to rural Oxford last week for the Southern Valley Dual Tournament, and the team came home with just one dual victory.

The Central City Bison may be one of the top teams in the LouPlatte Conference, but last Friday night, the Centura boys’ basketball team put the Merrick County kids on upset-alert.

Some of the toughest teams in Classes C and D from across central Nebraska were in attendance for last Friday’s Wood River Invite. Amid that fray of talented competition where the wrestlers from St.

SLADEK PACES ’CATS LAST WEEK Eighteen girls’ wrestling teams from across the state made the trip to Wood River on Saturday. Among those teams that took to the mat at Wood River Rural High School were the girls from St. Paul.

The Elba Bluejays were hoping to charge out of the gate this season. However, the Purple and Gold ran into two solid teams their the first week of their hardwood campaign, leaving the Bluejays still searching for their inaugural victory of the winter.
