The St. Paul Wildcats were aiming to at least get a player or two qualified for this year’s NSAA Class C State Girls Golf Tournament. However, their hopes of a state berth were put on pause last week, as the district meet was postponed due to the threat of severe weather in the area on Tuesday.

The St. Paul softball team’s season came to an end last Monday, as the third-seeded Wildcats fell to second-seeded Central City in the opening round of the C-8 Subdistrict Tournament in Hastings.

The Centura cross country team had a home-course advantage last Thursday, but that ended up not being enough to aid the Centurions in the face of some tough competition. On Thursday afternoon, Centura welcomed in eight other teams for the LouPlatte Conference Cross Country meet.

After losing their last two games to the fourthand sixth-rated teams in Class C-2, the Amherst Broncos were looking to win out when they made the trip to Centura last Thursday evening. However, the Centurions had other plans.

The St. Paul volleyball team is currently battling in this week’s LouPlatte Conference (LPC) Tournament, after having worked its way through another tournament last weekend. The Wildcats won two of three matches in Saturday’s Wisner-Pilger October Classic.

The Elba Bluejays volleyball team saw plenty of competition last week, with the Purple and Gold playing in six matches in the span of just five days. Last Tuesday, the Bluejays competed at the Central Valley triangular, where they battled the host Cougars and the Coyotes from Anselmo- Merna.

The regular season litmus test for prep cross country runners in the Cornhusker State has long been considered the University of Nebraska at Kearney’s annual prep invite, and, this year, that meet once again served as a barometer for area runners on the eve of postseason competition.

After winning back-to-back games over York and Boone Central earlier in the week, the second-seeded St. Paul softball team traveled to the Veterans Softball Complex in Grand Island for the annual LouPlatte Conference Tournament last Friday.

The St. Paul Wildcats got an early look at their postseason competition last Thursday, with the Blue and Gold making the trip east on Highway 92 to compete at the David City Aquinas Invite.
