Last Monday, April 7th, the National Weather Service (NWS) of Hastings held its annual Howard County-area Severe Weather Awareness Program. After having presented in Dannebrog in 2023 and St. Paul in 2024, 2025 saw NWS Warning Coordination Meteorologist Michael Moritz make his way to the fire hall in St. Libory.

The Loup rivers were all down a bit from last week’s reading when I checked on Sunday morning. The South Loup River was at 198 cubic-feet-per-second (cfs). The Middle Loup River’s reading is 1,400 cfs, and the North Loup River was running at 1,310 cfs.
Board awaits Nance County’s decision on dispatch

Multiple items were handled by the the Howard County Board of Commissioners during a roughly five-hour regular meeting last Tuesday. In their longest single agenda item, the commissioners heard an update to a proposed Nance County dispatch move, by which the Howard County Communications Center would take over dispatch services for that county next fiscal year.
