In the absence of Commander Luke Thompson, the joint May meeting of the Ray Mapes American Legion Post 236 was called to order on May 20th by Myron Rother. Ten Legion, one Son, and five Auxiliary members were in attendance. Chaplain Rhonda Allen gave the prayer; Rother and Jan Steenson performed the POW/ MIA chair program.

Taken from the files of The Wolbach Messenger Ten Years Ago, 2015 On May 28th and 29th, the Central Valley FFA officers attended the COLT camp in Aurora. Chapter Officer Leadership Training helps teach new officers more about the FFA organization in general and prepares them for the responsibilities of being an officer…While at COLT they learned the duties of the offices they hold and how to better themselves as leaders.

I checked the river flows on Sunday morning. The South Loup River is 328 cubic-feet-per-second (cfs), compared to 200 cfs last week. The Middle Loup River last week was at 1,020 cfs, now it’s 1,310 cfs. The North Loup River is down a little from last week. It’s 1,160 cfs this week, compared to last week, when it was at 1,250 cfs.

City adjusts senior center hours, cedes decision to mayor

Less than a week after the St. Paul Senior Center reopened to the public, at the bequest of the senior citizens and members of the Howard County Senior Citizens, Inc. Board, St. Paul city leaders made a change to their original plan to keep the facility temporarily operating.

On Monday, the National Commander of the American Legion, Mike Helm of Lebanon, Nebraska, visited the American Legion Post 119 in St. Paul…Following Helm’s presentation, the Central Plains American Legion Riders presented two checks to the National Commander, a $1,000 check for the American Legion Legacy Scholarship Fund and a $500 check for Operation Comfort Warriors… Taking part in the presentation were…John Van Winkle, Fritz Lee, Tom Whalen, Mike Rowley, Commander Mike Helm, and Renee Van Winkle.
