CONNECTING THE DOTS

ONE HUNDRED AREA FRESHMEN AND SOPHOMORES participated in Connecting the Dots program at the Valley County Fairgrounds in Ord on December 3rd. Connecting the Dots is a career simulation program designed to connect students to careers, communities, and possibilities. The event was hosted by Nebraska Extension in Greeley, Howard, Sherman, and Valley counties and attended by students from Burwell, Central Valley, Centura, Litchfield, Loup City, and Ord high schools. Partial funding for this program was provided by ESU 10.

THE REASON FOR THE SEASON

Night of the Nativity aims to celebrate the reason for the season The Night of the Nativity, a Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) event centered around expressing the “true meaning of Christmas” returns for its third year this Sunday, December 14th. The event, which features a series of vignettes centered around the Christmas story, live animals, hot cocoa, cookies, and more, takes place each year at 820 Kimball Road, on land belonging to Quentin and Carrie Kavan, who lead the FCA alongside Melody Becker.

STEENSON VOLUNTEERS WITH GIFTS FOR YANKS

On December 2nd, Jan Steenson, president of Wolbach American Legion Unit #236, attended the Gifts for Yanks activity at the Grand Island Veterans Medical Center. Some of the veterans played bingo and were served a snack of crackers, cheeses, meats and a beverage. Other veterans on the third and fourth floors stayed in their rooms and the snacks were brought to them. All of the veterans were given a 2026 calendar and a card which contained thirty dollars provided by the District 6 American Legion Family, which includes veterans, sons of veterans, American Legion Auxiliary members, and members of the Legion Riders. Steenson helped with the snacks on third and fourth floors at the hospital.
