The St. Paul Wildcats may have gotten off to a slow start during their first game of the season, but the Blue and Gold quickly made up for it, dominating Gibbon on both ends of the court en route to a 53-20 victory.

The St. Paul Wildcats returned a batch of experienced wrestlers who were hoping to improve on their impressive resumes this season.

The Holdrege Dusters gave the Centura girls’ basketball team a scare to start the season. Yet, despite some early offensive woes during last Thursday’s season opener in Phelps County, the Centurions were able to quickly make the necessary changes to get back on top, best the Dusters, and pave their way to a 2-0 start to the season.

No matter what the Wildcats’ prospects are at the start of the season, in order to get their winter campaign started off on the right foot, they must always first get past Gibbon. The Buffaloes are always a tough opponent on opening night and last week was no different.

The Centura boys’ basketball team was hoping to make some waves this season, especially in the always competitive LouPlatte Conference. On Saturday afternoon, the Centurions, who were fresh off of a 69-59 season-opening loss to Holdrege earlier that week, got their first glimpse of how they would fit into the conference picture this season when they hosted Wood River.

The Centura wrestling team struggled to find its footing last Friday when the Burgundy and Gray competed in its first invitational of the season. Last week, just three of the Centurions’ eight wrestlers who competed at the Dom Reicks Invitational at Ravenna High School managed to finish the meet with hardware.
