Many activities are planned, with the highlight of the weekend being the WHS Alumni Reunion! Wolbach’s American Legion Post 236 will conduct their annual Memorial Day program on Monday, May 25th…Colonel Wendy Johnson, commander of the 155th Mission Support Group of the Nebraska Air National Guard, will be the guest speaker. Wolbach’s 2014 Girls State representative Emily Houtby will give a report on her stay at Girls State… Johnson is a graduate of Elba High School and the daughter of Allen and Edna Ingerle of Elba.

Captain Dustin R. Lukasiewicz, the son of Keith Lukasiewicz of Farwell, was killed last week in a helicopter crash while delivering supplies to earthquake victims in Nepal.

Checking the river flows on Sunday afternoon, it was noted that the South Loup River was 123 cubic-feet-persecond (cfs), compared to 178 cfs last week. The Middle Loup River is down 457 cfs, having read 943 cfs on Sunday. The North Loup River’s reading is 857 cfs; last week, it was 1,040 cfs. The drop in the rivers does not surprise me, as it’s been over a week since we have had rain.

In the afternoon on Saturday, May 10th, in the Central Valley Auditorium on Clair Street in Greeley, twenty-four Cougars turned the tassels on their mortarboards, marking the closure of their high school careers.

CENTRAL VALLEY STUDENTS MAKE DONATION

CENTRAL VALLEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS collected over 300 pounds of food for the Howard Greeley County Food Pantry during their “Can You Build It?” campaign. The first grade class was the winner of the competition with their football theme. The food pantry is very appreciative of the students’ hard work in helping to feed those in need.

Area students to graduate from UNK

Graduate and undergraduate degrees will be conferred for 729 spring graduates at University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) commencement exercises at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16th at UNK’s Health and Sports Center.
