Commissioners Discuss Bridges, Agreement

With Thanksgiving approaching, a slim agenda met the Howard County Board of Commissioners at their second regular meeting of the month of November last Tuesday. Discussions concerning the Nebraska Department of Transportation’s (NDOT) County Bridge Match Program (CBMP) and a proposed Hall-Howard interlocal maintenance agreement on Loup River Road predominated the meeting.

Central Valley Tries Its Hand at Comedic Production

Following a trip to conference that saw four of its main cast members— Boston Wood, Morgan Rosander, Tamryn Klein, and Darci Buck—come away with acting honors, the Central Valley play production team has been hard at work preparing for district competition, which gets underway today (Wednesday, November 30th) in the Edwin and Bernice Lock Theater at the Performing Arts Center in Central City.

Ten Years Ago, 2012 Wolbach will officially usher in the Christmas season on Sunday, December 2nd at the community center with their annual festivities. As in the past, the event is sponsored by the Wolbach Community Club.

Reminder: The Christmas Craft Fair is December 3, 2022 at the Elba Community Center, from 10:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Homemade chicken noodle soup and chili will be served. Santa will arrive at 3:00 p.m. Enjoy holiday shopping, a bake sale, drawings, and door prizes.

It pained me to do it, but earlier this fall, I let my subscription to Sports Illustrated lapse. I had been a subscriber to the legendary sports magazine for almost five years, having purchased a subscription after a friend of mine suggested that I check it out.

As of Sunday evening, the South Loup River is listed as ice, which indicates the ice is affecting the measurement of the river flow. The Middle Loup River at St. Paul is up just a bit from last week, with a reading of 1.000 cubic feet per second. When I look out at the Loup River, the ice is gone now.

Baker Honored

Kaleb Baker, a senior at St. Paul High School, was recognized and awarded a Believers & Achievers plaque on Friday, November 18th, during halftime of the Class D-6 State Championship Football game at the University of Nebraska – Kearney. This award is sponsored by the Nebraska School Activities Association (NSAA) and Currency. Believers & Achievers is a statewide program designed to give recognition to Nebraska’s future leaders. Each school in the state can nominate three to four students. Those students then apply, and forty-eight are selected to receive the honor. At a scholarship banquet in April, 2023, eight finalists will be selected to receive $500 scholarships from Currency to use for the college or university of their choice.
