St. Paul Police Benefiting from Utilization of MACH Software

Following the implementation of new Mobile Architecture for Communication Handling (MACH) software in their in-car computers—or mobile data terminals (MDT)—last week, officers with the St. Paul Police Department (SPPD) will be able to get real-time GPS data updates on the locations of officers within their agency and other participating agencies, and easily share data with participating departments, including the Howard County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska State Patrol.

Smith First Baby of 2023

HOWARD COUNTY MEDICAL CENTER in St. Paul welcomed its first baby of 2023 last week. Hadleigh Grae Smith was born on January 26, 2023 at 9:09 p.m. Hadleigh, weighed 7.4 pounds and was nineteen inches long. Parents of the newborn are Wesley and Michelle Smith of rural St. Libory. (Michael Happ)

Ten Years Ago, 2013 The results of a school feasibility study will be presented to the public on Tuesday, April 2nd, at Greeley. The time of the meeting will be announced soon. Gerald Ehlers is conducting the study, which should be completed by late March. Ehlers was originally contracted by the Greeley-Wolbach and Cedar Rapids school boards to do the study. It was later expanded to include Spalding and North Loup-Scotia, then Ord asked to be part of the study. The school boards of the five schools involved will be at the presentation and the public is encouraged to attend.

We all remember the many unique and special birthday gifts that we received growing up – and maybe still are receiving if you are so lucky! As I celebrated my own birthday this past week, I had the chance to reflect on some of the special gifts that I have received over the years; however, among the litany of presents that I unwrapped at the end of January each year, there were a couple that stood out. Among those, was a unique gift that a friend of mine gave me that likely only cost a dollar or two but meant the world to me.

Wellness Center Still on Track for Completion in ’24

At 7:00 p.m. last Wednesday evening, the Howard County Medical Center (HCMC) held its second of two informational meetings about its incipient seventeen-thousand square foot, eight-million- dollar therapy/wellness center, with HCMC CEO Arlan Johnson leading those in attendance through a brief discussion regarding the origins, purpose, and dimensions of the facility.

Ten Years Ago, 2013 Jack Vetter, chief executive officer and chairman of the board of Vetter Health Services in Elkhorn, announced this week that Heritage Living Center in St. Paul will now be called Brookefield Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation. “The name is a nod to the baseball history here in St. Paul, hometown of Grover Cleveland Alexander,” said Vetter…“The ‘e’ in-between the words ‘brook’ and, ‘field’, represents the excellent team we have here in St. Paul.”
