St. Paul Art Club Students Work to Spread Christmas Cheer

Members of the St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS) Art Club are looking to spread Christmas cheer to residents of the Matelyn Retirement Community and Brookefield Park Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation this holiday season. Working before and after school, about twenty-five of the club’s thirty-seven seventh– twelfth-grade members have created 125 pinecone Christmas trees to be distributed to residents of both care facilities this Saturday.
Osterman-Davis Seeking New Owner for St. Paul Staple

A business that has been a St. Paul institution for the past thirty-four years may soon be under new management. Alice Osterman-Davis, who has owned and operated St. Paul’s Sweet Shoppe since founding the same with her mother, Dora Johnson (née Andersen), in 1988, is looking to sell the business to someone eager to carry it forward into the next generation.
HCMC’s New Mammography Machine Brought Online

About seven years ago, in 2015, the Howard County Medical Center (HCMC) purchased its first mammography machine: the Siemens Mammomat Inspiration. With it, the county’s critical access hospital had become the first in the area to provide 3D tomography—combining multiple x-rays to create a three-dimensional image.

Ten Years Ago, 2012 The St. Paul City Council met on Monday evening for their first session after the election…Mayor Jim Snow presented a plaque to Tracy Howard for his five years of service on the St. Paul City Council. Howard commended the city employees for their dedication and said he enjoyed the opportunity of serving on the council. He said that St. Paul is a progressive community that is moving forward. Incumbent Howard Beck and newcomer Brenda Klanecky, both elected in the General Election, took the oath of office that was administered by City Clerk Connie Jo Beck. The interlocal agreement with the library was discussed. The city and school each have three members on the board, who must be residents of the city and/or school district. Lowen Clausen, who lives in Washington state, has served on the board for many years. His status will be changed to member-at-large, with no voting rights. Mike Feeken will now be St. Paul’s third representative on the library board. It was noted that the city is responsible for paying personnel from 3:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on school days, and for weekends, holidays, and during the summer, and for helping to maintain the building. Mayor Snow said no city funding should be used to provide food, such as the rice crispy bars that were on the most recent bills from the library.

The First Presbyterian Church of St. Paul’s nineteenth annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner was a marked success in its first return to in-house Thanksgiving service in three years, according to Community Thanksgiving Committee Co-Chair Janet Rasmussen.
