Billy Starkey to serve second term on Air University BoV

By order of the United States Secretary of Defense and the Secretary of the Air Force, St. Paul native Billy Starkey has been appointed to a second term on the prestigious Board of Visitors (BoV) to Air University (AU), serving both the US Air Force (USAF) and US Space Force (USSF). Each year, AU confers twelve doctoral, 1,150 masters, and 3,500 associates degrees, and commissions 4,400 new officers. It oversees USAF Test Pilot School, Community College of the Air Force, Air Force Institute of Technology, Air War College, Air Command & Staff College, Squadron Officer College, International Officer School, School of Advanced Air and Space Studies, Officer Training School, Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC), Junior ROTC, Civil Air Patrol (CAP), all enlisted and non-commissioned officer leadership schools, and all specialized programs for United States cabinet appointees, senior executive service civilians, and general officers.

Jim Sidel of St. Paul, past state commander of the American Legion, will be at the St. Paul Public School Veterans Day Program, which will be held on Monday, November 11th at 10:00 a.m. in the high school gymnasium. Sidel is a member of the Carl Mogensen Pose 119 in St. Paul.

LITERARY PUMPKIN PROJECT

MORE THAN 100 St. Paul Elementary students decorated pumpkins as characters from fiction as part of the St. Paul Library and St. Paul Public Schools’ Literary Pumpkin Project last month. The fruits of the project’s efforts were on display in the library’s Community Room last week. Above are three different renditions of Dr. Seuss’s The Cat in the Hat.

The South Loup River has been consistent, with a reading on Sunday morning of 149 cfs. When I looked at the Middle Loup River, it looks like a roller coaster ride. For the past few days, it’s been up, down, up, and down by 300 cfs, and it appears to be trending downward, with a reading of 1,430 cfs.

Remember when

Recently, the Village of Wolbach relocated the veterans memorial to the west end of main street, near the east entrance to Cottonwood Park. The Legionnaires will be adding to the memorial at a later date. The memorial had been located in the mini-park and was moved to make room for the new community center.

Picking bee held for Mahrt family

Early this week, a group of local volunteers came together to put on a harvest bee for the late Bryan Mahrt, who passed unexpectedly on Monday, October 30th. Several volunteers, have been enlisted to help pick and haul on the Mahrt ground just across Highway 22 south of Wolbach in Howard County and west of Wolbach Foods, north of Greeley Avenue, in Greeley County.
