During an agenda littered with brief items of business, multiple items pertaining to local law enforcement were discussed by the Howard County Board of Commissioners during their first regular meeting of the month of September last Tuesday. Among these items were an insurance claim for the replacement of a glass door and its pane at St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS) that had been damaged by the discharge of a Howard County sheriff’s deputy’s sidearm last month and concerns regarding the county’s Central Nebraska Special Response Team (SRT) agreement.
A Last Soldier Dedication was conducted at Wolbach’s Hillside Cemetery on the afternoon of Thursday, September 14th in honor of Abel Eastabrooks (1848–1937). Members of the Camp Harrison branch of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) Department of Nebraska and the Dakotas (DND) out of Wisner, and of the Kady Brownell Tent 25 of the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War 1861–1865 (DUVCW) out of Bellwood, led the ceremony, which had been well-attended by both members of Ray Mapes American Legion Post 236 and the general public.

At a meeting of the Dannebrog Fire Department, Albert Clark announced to his fellow firefighters that he would no longer be able to attend meetings or be on the fire department because he needed a kidney transplant. He would later ask for people to be tested to see if they were a match.
As predicted during a conversation we were having with friends at a wedding reception, the Loup rivers are up. The reading on the South Loup River is at 111 cfs and the Middle Loup River at St. Paul is at 951 cfs.
In front of a homecoming crowd, the Centura football team found the right recipe, and, on Friday night, the Burgundy and Gray snapped their three-game early-season skid. After dropping their first three games of the year, last week, Centura left little to chance.
Taken from the files of The Wolbach Messenger Ten Years Ago, 2013 Tristan Klein of Wolbach won the overall Grand Champion 4-H Breeding Doe at the Nebraska State Fair. She and her goat, Katrina, were in the Parade of Champions on Monday.
Wolbach’s main thoroughfare was packed most of Friday afternoon as parents, teachers, students, and fans of Central Valley Public Schools made their way on to Center Avenue to help celebrate Cougar homecoming.
