Commissioners approve bid for county roads shop

Body After having tabled the item during their first regular meeting of the month of August, the Howard County Board of Commissioners accepted a bid for a general contractor for their county yards project last Tuesday, August 27th.

Body On Labor Day morning, the South Loup River is at 109 cfs, down a bit from last week. The Middle Loup River at St. Paul is 661 cfs, the same as last time. The North Loup River is at 973 cfs, down some.

Body A town hall meeting was held Wednesday evening on the public’s vision of St. Paul. The meeting took place in the school cafeteria and was conducted by JEO Consulting Group, the firm hired by the city to update St. Paul’s comprehensive plan.

Body A new Husker football season kicked off Saturday at Memorial Stadium and Nebraska State Troopers are partnering with several agencies to keep fans safe on the roads, in the stadium, on the radio, and with an eye in the sky.

Hunting on state recreation areas began September 3rd

Body Nebraska’s state recreation areas (SRA) opened for hunting on September 3rd. Several hunting seasons opened in early September, including archery deer, dove, grouse, early teal, and other small game and furbearer seasons on September 1st.

CITY REJECTS SHERIFF’S PROPOSAL

Body A “rough draft” proposal by Howard County Sheriff Mike Hoff to replace the St. Paul Police Department with services provided by the Howard County Sheriff’s Office spurred over forty minutes of debate in front of the St. Paul City Council last week.
