Ten Years Ago, 2014

Body
Ten Years Ago, 2014 One of St. Paul’s older homes on Howard Avenue came down on June 10, 2014. This home at 1123 Howard Avenue was once the residence of Howard County pioneers James Arch “J.A.” and Joanna Haggart. The Keating family, another prominent Howard County family, also owned it…a larger front porch was added, but some of the original features of the home could still be identified…Over the years, the home fell into disrepair and needed to be demolished. The volatile weather pattern experienced locally and across the state for the past few weeks is expected to continue…Unfortunately for northeast Nebraska, Monday’s moderate risk turned into a deadly tornado outbreak, as Stanton and Cuming Counties experienced tornados. The town of Pilger was particularly hard hit, with over half of the town destroyed when…one of two powerful tornadoes on the ground at the same time tore through the community…At least two people died in the tornadoes and sixteen were listed in critical condition.
