Taken from the files of The Wolbach Messenger Ten Years Ago, 2015 Keely Butcher and Emily Houtby of Central Valley High School recently participated in STAR Events (Students taking Action with Recognition) at Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America’s (FCCLA) District IX Competition. Butcher, who is a junior at Central Valley and is the daughter of Ross and Patty Butcher of Greeley, received a Gold medal and was awarded the District Champion medal in the Focus on Children category…Houtby, who is a senior at Central Valley and is the daughter of Brett and Shelly Houtby of Wolbach, received a silver medal and was awarded the District Champion medal in the Job Interview category…Butcher and Houtby advance to the State STAR Completion in Lincoln on April 13th.

Notice is hereby given that a public meeting of the Board of Education of the Central Valley School District #39-0060 will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at the school library at Greeley. The agenda for such meeting is available for public inspection at the office of the superintendent.

SENIOR CITIZENS MEET

The Wolbach Senior Citizens met on January 29th at the Wolbach Community Center with fourteen guests present. Members played pitch, with Delvin Teter winning high, Irene Walker low, and Cheryl Yoder traveling. The group then celebrated the birthdays of Delvin Teter and Paul Nielsen. Members will meet again on February 26th at 2:00 p.m. at the Wolbach Community Center.

No water flow readings again this week, as all reading locations are affected by ice. We have water flowing past our place, although I’ve heard there is an ice jam upstream between Boelus and the Centura bridge.

Twenty Years Ago, 2005 A York man was arrested following a high speed chase through three central Nebraska counties on Wednesday, January 28th, which involved four law enforcement agencies and lasted about forty-five minutes. The incident began in Howard County around 8:00 a.m…During the pursuit, [Howard County Chief Deputy Sheriff Mike] Hoff witnessed the driver throwing bags of a controlled substance out of the window…The pursuit, which at times was between seventy-five and 110 mph, went through Greeley County and into Valley County…Howard County Sheriff Tom Busch set up stop sticks about a mile north of the Greeley-Howard County line… [the driver] pulled over when his tires went flat…[the driver] faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, flight to avoid arrest, tampering with evidence, and driving under suspension.
