Centura falls to Yutan/Mead in first-ever state appearance Centura’s first-ever game in the NSAA Class C State Softball Tournament went down to the wire, but the Diamonds were sent to the bottom half of the bracket with a 3-1 loss to Yutan/ Mead in a low-scoring, defensive battle Wednesday. “I thought we came out tight, and the outfield wasn’t going and getting the balls like they usually do,” said Centura Coach Kirk Chelewski.

Centura junior Kasen Webb finished four seconds shy of qualifying for this year’s NSAA Class C State Cross Country Championships. Last Thursday, on the course at Camp Kateri south of McCool Junction, Webb completed the race at the District D-4 Meet in 18:56.15 for a sixteenth- place finish.

Across the Cornhusker State, football fans were focused on the fight for the Bits of Broken Chair trophy in the Twin Cities last Friday. However, in Howard County, the fight for the Howie took center stage.
