As of Sunday afternoon, the South Loup River has a flow of 186 cfs, down from 278 last week, and the flow at the river near St. Paul is at 1,350 cfs, also down from last week’s reading of 1,670 cfs. When I looked at the chart for the week, it’s been an up/down river flowing kind of week.

County Eyes Purchase of Part of Fairgrounds

The Howard County Roads Department made significant headway in an effort to relocate the county yards last Tuesday, after members of the Howard County Board of Commissioners agreed to move forward with negotiations with the Howard County Agricultural Society concerning the purchase of roughly 4.7 acres of property at the Howard County Fairgrounds for this purpose.

Response Team Helps Fight Multiple Fires this Month

The Platte River Twin Loup Mutual Aid Response Team (Hall-Howard County Strike Team) has been busy this April, having been called to support in fighting fires near Union on Easter Sunday, in fighting the Rock Creek Fire near Fairbury in the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 12th, and in fighting fires near Anselmo on Thursday and Friday, April 13th and 14th, in addition to fighting smaller fires closer to home.

Area Organization Announces Boys State Representatives

St. Paul American Legion Post 119 has announced selection of Boys State representatives. Post 119 Commander Chuck Schmid has received notice from the American Legion Department of Nebraska that Samuel Wells, Isaac Hagen, Garrett Didier, Mason Childers, and Julius Gonzalez of St. Paul have been selected to attend Boys State in Lincoln from June 4th until June 10th, 2023. Adam Arellano was selected as an alternate.

Egg Hunt Proves to be Popular

THE WOLBACH COMMUNITY CLUB held its annual Easter egg hunt at Memorial Field in Wolbach on Friday. A large crowd of kids turned out for the event, which featured participants gathering goodies on the football field before making their way to various area businesses for some additional treats. Ten Years Ago, 2013 Colin Oakley of Wolbach, a member of the Karp and Krow trap shooting team, did well at the Mid-Nebraska Trap Conference Meet that was held on Saturday. Individually, Oakley was the high handicap twenty-fourto- twenty-five-yard line champion and runner-up for high overall. He was also on the champion sixteen- yard team and the high overall team.
