BACK TO SCHOOL

Body
STUDENTS across Howard County were scheduled to return to class this week, with school starting in Elba on Tuesday and at St. Paul and Centura on Thursday. Last Thursday, in preparation for the upcoming year, the Elba School community held its annual Back-to-School Bash. The event, which featured a pot-luck meal, also included numerous games and activities for students. Above, kids work to build a Jenga tower during the event. At left, Dylan Brittain participates in one of the many games while also enjoying a frozen treat.

The July meeting of the 49 County Clovers started off with the 4-H pledge. The group talked about some of the extra fair activities, including movie night, the water balloon fight, and livestock judging. Following this, they began their showmanship practice. They had cattle, horses, goats, sheep, dogs, and small animals. It was a great learning experience and chance for those members who haven’t shown animals to see what shows are all about.
