Legion family holds May meeting

The May 21st joint meeting of the American Legion Post, Sons of the American Legion, and Auxiliary Unit 236 was called to order by Myron Rother due to the absence of Commander Luke Thompson. Nine legion members, one son, and nine auxiliary members were in attendance.

Sunday morning, the South Loup River was flowing at 520 cfs. That’s up from 262 cfs last week. The Middle Loup River was at 1,430 cfs, which is down from 1,550 cfs last week. It has been reported from reliable sources (our daughter) that lightning bugs are back and(our grandsons) the mulberries are starting to ripen. It’s great to have extra eyes watching what’s new on the Loup River. I’ve fished our ponds a couple of days, catching largemouth bass. It’s fun to have the pull on my line and reel them in.

Next Tuesday, June 18th, Dr. Reverend Susan Murithi and her family will be saying goodbye to the community they have called home for the past four years. Murithi is the pastor of the United Methodist Church (UMC) in St. Paul.
Two SPHS students to attend RYLA

Youth who are sophomores or juniors in high school in a public or private school, or who are homeschooled, and have an interest in learning about and developing their leadership potential were recently invited to apply for the Great Plains Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) program. This year’s Great Plains RYLA Camp will be held from July 15th until 19th in Maxwell.
Troopers begin summer campaign

Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol removed forty-seven impaired drivers from the road during a statewide campaign to begin the summer travel season. The Make It Click campaign ran from May 20th through June 2nd.
Deadlines nearing for Junk Jaunt

It’s time again to think of Junk Jaunt. The deadline to advertise in the Junk Jaunt book for businesses is July 1st. The Jaunt Jaunt Guidebook is the “Bible” for Junk Jaunters not only during Junk Jaunt, but anytime someone is passing through the area.
