“I just hope I can help Howard County moving forward.” — Heather Sikyta The Howard County Board of Commissioners appointed a new county attorney near the end of February. Following the recommendation of the county’s interview committee— composed of Commissioner Jessie Urbanski and Howard County Sheriff Mike Hoff—the county board voted unanimously to appoint Heather Sikyta to the Howard County attorney’s office during their February 25th regular meeting.

With a red flag warning across the state and much of the area in a fire weather watch, local first responders spent a great deal of time last week fighting fires, including nine in Howard County alone—mostly grass fires caused by burn piles that reignited under high winds and temperatures. But on Thursday, February 27th, firefighters were called out to a blaze of a different kind.
