DCB stays alive in losers’ bracket at state tournament

The Dannebrog-Cairo- Boelus (DCB) and Malcolm Seniors were on a collision course for a rematch of last year’s state championship game all season long. Last Tuesday, that became a reality when DCB caught fire in the losers’ bracket, topping Lincoln Lutheran in a 10-0 shutout and breezing past a red-hot Imperial team in the semifinals, 19-2.

Seniors can’t overcome first-inning homer from Malcolm’s Mason Wisnieski, lose 1-0 The Dannebrog-Cairo- Boelus (DCB) (27-4) and Malcolm Seniors (26-5), after notching a pair of dominant wins in the first round of the Class C Senior American Legion Baseball Tournament, found themselves on a collision course to meet in the second round in Rushville last Sunday. In a rematch of last year’s Class C state championship bout, starting pitchers Mason Gorecki and Maddox Meyer showcased one of the most electric pitchers’ duels of the season, as Malcolm escaped with a 1-0 victory to remain in the top half of the bracket.

HIGH FOOTBALL CONDITIONING TO BEGIN NEXT WEEK Junior High football conditioning for students at St. Paul Public Schools will begin next Monday, August 7th at 8:30 a.m. and will last until 10:00 a.m. each day. Players are asked to meet on the junior high practice field (between the high school and bus barn) at 8:15 a.m. each morning.

After earning backto- back state titles and a second-place finish in 2022, DCB is set to make its sixth straight appearance after last Tuesday’s 14-3 win over Ord in the championship game of the Area C-6 Tournament.
