Following a dominant start to the season—in which the St. Paul softball team bested O’Neill, Wilber- Clatonia, and Polk County by a combined score of 29-4—the Wildcats got their first taste of defeat during last Thursday’s triangular with Central City and Centura/Central Valley.
The Elba Bluejays may have had to wait several days longer than many volleyball teams across the Cornhusker State to start their season; however, the results of last Tuesday’s triangular was worth the wait.
There was a starting lineup full of new faces, a new coaching staff on the sideline, and a different location; however, when St. Paul met up with Minden on Friday night, the result was the same as it had been the year before.
CENTURIONS WIN FIRST MATCH There were triple-digit temperatures outside, and things were just as hot indoors when the Centurions faced off against Holdrege in a season-opening dual on the Dusters’ home court last week. In the confines of the gymnasium at Holdrege High School, the Centurions were pushed to their limit by Holdrege; however, after five sets, the Burgundy and Gray ended up notching the victory.
