Bluejays stay indoors, log strong start to season

The Elba Bluejays jumpstarted their 2025 track season indoors last week, helping the Purple and Gold dodge the aftermath of a spring blizzard and begin their season on a hot note. On the track at the Cushing Fieldhouse at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK), the Bluejays were among a handful of teams to compete in the UNK Class D Indoor Invitational on Monday.

Elba stumbles opposite Ansley-Litchfield in subdistricts Top-seeded Ansley-Litchfield was too much for the Elba Bluejays in the opening round of the D2-7 Subdistrict Tournament at Litchfield. The Spartans, led by a career-best performance from Landon Schulte, jumped out to a big lead early and coasted to a 60-17 win and, eventually, the subdistrict crown.

Alex Meinecke wins Class C wrestling title by major decision After coming up short the year before, Alex Meinecke came into the 2025 NSAA State Wrestling Championships looking for his mission accomplished moment. On Saturday, in front of a crowd of over 11,000 people at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Meinecke achieved his goal, with the junior winning his first Class C state title.

Cougars come home with hardware, trophy

There were plenty of twists and turns along the way, but Saturday night, Central Valley had a chance to scale the podium and hoist a team trophy at the NSAA State Wrestling Championships. With eight qualifiers and four medalists— including a pair of champions— the Cougars scored 114 points at last week’s state meet, allowing Central Valley to finish the weekend as the Class D runners-up.
