The biggest race of the day at the Tom Schacht Invitational at St. Paul High School didn’t take place on the track.

The small field gathered at St. Paul High School for the Tom Schacht Invitational on April Fool’s Day was no joke.

After a 1-2 start to the season, the St. Paul/ Palmer Cats rattled off three consecutive wins to improve their season mark to 4-2. Most recently, the Cats used a complete team performance to hand Centennial a 9-5 loss last Tuesday.

On Thursday, the Central Valley Cougars seemingly picked up right where they left off on the track at Omaha Burke last May. Last week, the Cougars kicked off their 2025 season by cashing in on the medal count at the Arcadia/Loup City Invite in Loup City.

On a record-breaking day for teams at the Arcadia/Loup City Invite, the Elba Bluejays managed to make some noise during their first outdoor meet of the season. Last Thursday, amid perfect conditions, the Purple and Gold picked up a series of medals in Loup City, with the girls’ team finding a particularly large amount of success in the field.

The St. Paul/Palmer Cats rattled off backto- back home wins last week, defeating Holdrege 11-8 on Tuesday and using a walk-off run from Levi Bader to take down state-rated Adams Central 6-5 on Thursday.
