James John Novakowski, 54, of Grand Island, died on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island, surrounded by his loving family. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Reverend Marty L. Egging celebrated the Mass. Jeanne Allen and the Blessed Sacrament Funeral Choir sang. Oscar Erives served as the accompanist. Musical selections included “How Great Thou Art”, “All Is Well With My Soul”, “One Bread, One Body”, and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”. Burial was in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island. Casket bearers were Carolynne Lafrenz, Mike Gorecki, Scott Gallaway, Rosie Fruchtl, Matt Gorecki, and Wade Kroeger.

Victor Goerl Passes at Age 95

Victor E. Goerl, 95, of Grand Island, died on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at Bickford of Grand Island. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at St. Libory’s Catholic Church in St. Libory. Reverends Sidney B. Bruggeman and Thomas Vijumon and Deacon Don Placke concelebrated the Mass. Tyler Goerl, Addison Goerl, Keri Anania, and Rosanne Goerl served as lectors. Jeanne Allen and Dianne Schneider served as the musicians. Musical selections included “Amazing Grace”, “Ave Maria”, “Give Me Jesus”, “Song of Farewell”, and “I Know That My Redeemer Lives”. Victor’s grandchildren served as gift bearers. Burial was at the Calvary Cemetery in Clarks. Casket bearers included Grant Goerl, Tyler Goerl, Kyle Simonds, Brett Goerl, Jeremy Goerl, Jon Sack, Ryan Goerl, Joe Sack, Tony Goettsche, Andrew Sack, Denny Sack, and Brian Sack. Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation. Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul assisted the family.

Annette Colvin Services Held

Annette “Annie” Colvin, 67, was called home on July 20, 2022 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. A celebration of Annie’s life was held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at the Northridge Assembly of God Church in Grand Island. Pastor Angie Franks officiated. Musical selections included “Why Me”, “Go On Without Me”, “Amazing Grace”, and “Scars In Heaven”.

D. Christensen Passes at Age 95

Delores Jean Christensen was born on August 11, 1927 at St. Paul to Ardre and Veronica (Rojewski) Roshone. As a young girl, she lived with her parents and brother, Bob, on the Markvicka place west of St. Paul, until moving in 1935, at the age of seven, to the Lambert Ranch northwest of Palmer. She attended Palmer School and, in 1944, moved with her family to Newcastle, Wyoming, where her father worked on the MW Ranch. She graduated from Newcastle High School in 1944. In April 1945, the family moved back to Palmer. There, Jean worked for Dr. J. Y. Racines, as well as for Ihler Drugstore. On November 26, 1947, Jean married Albert Christensen at Mitchell, Nebraska. They farmed north of Palmer, where she was Albert’s “right hand man,” raised three daughters, gardened, canned, butchered, and sewed. She enjoyed being part of a local extension club, being on a bowling league, and belonging to the Wolbach Saddle Club. After retiring from farming, they moved to St. Paul and started St. Paul Real Estate and Auction. Jean also opened Grandma’s Cottage, selling home décor items. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church.

Thomas John Wieck, 83, of Grand Island died on Sunday, August 7, 2022 at Brookefield Park in St. Paul. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Thursday, August 18th at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. Father Marty Egging celebrated the Mass. Private burial of ashes was in the Grand Island Cemetery.
