Monday was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day — an opportunity to thank the men and women who keep Nebraskans safe. It’s particularly important that we use this special day to celebrate our law enforcement officers because in some parts of the country their life-saving work is undervalued and even demonized.

New Year’s Casino Night a Success

Wolbach Parks and Recreation, a committee formed in June last year with the stated goal of bringing a splashpad to Wolbach and new playground equipment to the village’s parks, rang in the new year with a New Year’s Eve Casino Night from Saturday, December 31st through Sunday, January 1st at the Wolbach Community Center, and, according to committee president Mallory Dugan, the event was a marked success.

Ten Years Ago, 2013 Last Saturday, the Cedar Valley wrestling team had two runners-up at the Amherst Invite in Trey Nekoliczak (106) and Jesse Lammers (120)… Trey Nekoliczak (17-3) won his first three matches as he pinned Peyton Cumpston of Amherst in 3:17, pinned Dalton Kautz of Shelton-Kenesaw in 1:00, and won a 9-2 decision over Tayven Sauser of Plainview. In the championship match, Nekoliczak lost a 5-2 decision to David Jimenez of Shelton/ Kenesaw…Jesse Lammers (11-3) pinned Joel VanDiest of Sandhills/Thedford in 2:24 and pinned Taylor Sauser of Plainview in 1:05. In the championship, Lammers lost a 4-2 decision in overtime.

During a school board meeting on Monday night, amid a discussion on the future of the school district’s facilities, a member of the board made a unique comment when asked by one of the potential architects what leaders of the district wanted the school to be known for.
